Efficient. Effective. Experienced. Western Fumigation
import/export commodities

We work closely with state, federal and local regulatory agencies to set – not just meet - industry standards. Our Compliance Officer assures that we stay current on, and fully adhere to, rules and regulations from the following government agencies:

DHS (Department of Homeland Security)

DHS coordinates the activities of multiple agencies and programs to protect the American people and their homeland. Western complies with the initiatives and regulations of several DHS agencies, including:

EPA (Environmental Protection Agency)

The EPA and state environmental agencies regulate the storage, transport, application and disposal of fumigants. These regulations are precisely defined on the pesticide labels, with severe penalties for non-compliance.

Respect for the environment has been part of the Western culture since our company was founded in 1928. We handle all materials strictly according to label requirements – because in our business, the label is the law.

USDA (United States Department of Agriculture)

USDA is responsible for protecting U.S. agriculture from unwanted, non-indigenous insects and plant diseases. Many imported fresh fruits and vegetables – as well as import/export commodities such as logs, cotton and tobacco – must be fumigated to meet both USDA and foreign government quarantine requirements.

Increasing cargo volumes have created challenges for importers/exporters and port operators. Western has a long history of working cooperatively with USDA to develop innovations and techniques that help us protect and expedite your cargo while complying with government regulations.

OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration)

Workplace safety is a Western priority. Our training programs, screening procedures and Compliance Officer assure that we adhere to and exceed OSHA requirements, for two important reasons – to protect people from injury, and to prevent accidents that could affect your business.

DOT (Department of Transportation)

Both DOT and Western are committed to driver safety and the safe transport of hazardous materials. DOT imposes rigorous qualifications for mandatory Commercial Drivers Licenses (CDLs) with a hazardous materials (HAZMAT) endorsement. This agency also requires extensive documentation, including criminal background checks, drivers’ time logs, Material Safety Data Sheets, and vehicle placards to alert local police and fire departments in case of an accident.

FDA (Food and Drug Administration)

We help our clients comply with FDA standards to assure the safety of food, food additives, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics. Sometimes fumigation is required to meet those standards.
